The BB8 – Getting kids into coding
At my daughter’s school, they have a BB8 droid which they programme at their Coding Club. Of course, the kids love it and coding is all the rage. The BB8 features in the latest Star Wars film – The Force Awakens. In fact, rather than use CGI, the film-makers actually used a working robot in the film. They are perhaps the cutest-ever droid.
They are guided via an app on your phone or tablet and can record and view virtual holographic videos. The BB-8 has a mind of its own and an adaptive personality, which means its actions and unique attitude evolve as you interact with it. It’s all a little bit amazing for us adults to understand.
The BB-8 scores a big 4.3 out of 5 stars in 343 reviews on Amazon. There are also 114 answered questions.
Developed by Sphero, which is one of Amazon’s Launchpad companies. It is, of course, a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) toy.
