Board Games Are More Popular Than Ever
According to MailOnline (sourced 31/12/17), the sales of card and board games soared by 20 per cent last year. They pick out two games – Racing Demons and Exploding Kittens – as likely to remain very popular in the category card games 2018. The Hobby Games sector is said to be worth more than $1.4 billion in the US in 2016, a 20 per cent rise on the previous year (sourced from an article in The Telegraph, 29/1/18).
Must have family games
It’s very hard to predict what will be the next big trend. However, there are plenty of toys and games that have stood the test of time. Some of these reinvent themselves to remain relevant in a fast-moving world. Others create many different versions of themselves to appeal to niche markets. A great example of this is Monopoly.
Quality time with the family
Regular game-playing offers the chance for families to spend quality time together away from the distractions of phones, tablets and telly. Family games also have educational benefits such as learning strategies, taking turns and matching skills.
Games are well-priced for presents, many in the £15-£20 price bracket. They are also great for playing at home-based parties.
New games are being developed all the time. Recently, there has been a huge surge in the popularity of games for teens/adults. You should definitely check age-suitability when making a purchase as many of the top-selling games are definitely not for children.
